Club Climate Europe representatives Beatriz Soler and Alexandra Pavlidis were privileged to attend an engaging event featuring prominent figures in the realm of urban development and sustainability. Hosted by Jan Olbrycht, President of the URBAN Intergroup at the European Parliament, and opened with a warm welcome from Jakub Mazur, 1st Deputy Mayor of Wrocław and President of METREX – The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas, the event brought together a diverse group of experts.
From the Club Climate Europe, we found this event incredibly informative and inspiring. The discussion surrounding the #Manifiesto as a pivotal political document is a testament to our collective commitment to fostering sustainable, green cities. It’s clear that the path forward involves integrating sustainability, mobility, and climate change to create a brighter, more eco-conscious future.
Key highlights included a presentation by Łukasz Medeksza, a member of METREX Managing Committee, and insights from Arianna Censi, Councilor at Città metropolitana di Milano and member of the Committee of Regions. We also had the privilege to virtually welcome Stelian Bujduveanu, Deputy Mayor of Bucharest, and František Kubeš, the City of Brno and leader of EurocitiesWorking Group for Metropolitan Governance.
Following these presentations, participants dove into a dynamic debate and discussion, expertly moderated by Fabienne Keller MEP, Vice President of the Urban Intergroup. The participants included Marco Griguolo, Councillor at Città Metropolitana di Milano; Gianina Panatau, Director of the Bucharest Metropolitan Area; Robert van Asten, Deputy Mayor of The Hague; Markku Markkula, President of the Helsinki Uusimaa Region; Jakub Mazur, First Deputy Mayor of Wrocław; and Marcos Ros MEP, Member of the European Parliamentand Socialists coordinator for the REGI Committee.
The event culminated with insightful conclusions from Jan Olbrycht, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and sustainability in shaping our urban landscapes.
