Exciting News from the European Commission: “Delivering today and preparing for tomorrow: The 2024 Commission Work Programme” 🇪🇺

Today, the European Commission has unveiled its 2024 Work Programme, packed with initiatives aimed at simplifying rules for citizens and businesses across the European Union.

✅ The key takeaways:
President von der Leyen’s commitment to reducing reporting requirements by 25% to boost long-term competitiveness and support SMEs.
15 proposals and initiatives have already been put forward since March 2023.
The program focuses on better regulation, burden reduction, and cutting red tape without compromising standards.
Upcoming initiatives are aligned with the 2023 State of the Union speech and letter of intent.

💼 Why this matters for your business:
The Commission’s commitment to reducing bureaucratic burdens means more efficiency and cost savings for businesses. For instance, reforming the Union Customs Code is expected to save traders around €2 billion. Similarly, revisions in rules on statistical surveys aim to reduce costs, including for SMEs, by €450 million.

📊 What to expect:
The 2024 Work Programme includes additional simplification proposals across various policy areas, all while maintaining social, safety, consumer protection, environmental, and economic standards. These simplifications will streamline reporting requirements and increase digitalization, making it easier for businesses to operate.

🌍 Beyond business:
The Commission remains dedicated to the European Green Deal, growth agenda, and fostering dialogue with citizens and industry. They’ll focus on addressing labour and skill shortages, education, social dialogue, inflation, and ease of doing business.

🤝 International focus:
The Commission is committed to supporting Ukraine and fostering partnerships with Africa, fair trade, and enhancing Member States’ defence capabilities.

📈 Moving forward:
The Commission will work closely with the European Parliament and Council to ensure swift agreements. They’re actively seeking feedback and input from stakeholders to refine their approach.
